Welcome!

Hi! I’m glad you are here!

My name is Alyssa and I am an American Sign Language tutor and owner of ASL Lotus. I was born profoundly Deaf and ASL is my first language. I have a cochlear implant to help me hear and I am comfortable with sim-com (signing and talking simultaneously) while you are first learning if this is preferred.

I offer virtual one-to-one or group sessions for anyone wanting to learn. Each session is tailored to each individual’s learning style and goals. I offer Levels 1, 2 and 3 and each session is $30 for 40 minutes. But your first session with me is free!

I accept a few different methods of payment and I also accept ESA (educational savings account). For more information, please reach out to me at alyssa@asllotus.com

I would love to be a part of your ASL journey!

TESTIMONIALS

"Alyssa is an amazing ASL teacher for both kids and adults. She explains signs in ways that make them easy to remember, often using stories or examples that really stick. She also sends videos so that my daughter can practice, and I use them to practice with her as well. She is very knowledgeable about the Deaf community and creates such a welcoming environment that we always feel comfortable asking questions.

When my daughter discovered her passion for becoming an ASL interpreter, she immediately encouraged her, adjusted her learning plan and have been incredibly supportive along the way.

With her help, my daughter is now feeling comfortable attending Deaf socials and signing with other people. I have a very shy child, and seeing her gain confidence and step outside of her comfort zone has been wonderful. We highly recommend her to anyone interested in learning ASL, whether you are an adult wanting to learn or a child just getting started." -Karen S., Gilbert, AZ.

"We have been studying ASL with Alyssa for a year and we look forward to every class! Our niece was born profoundly Deaf in 2019 and got her cochlear implants in 2020 and 2021. But after her Mom noticed that she didn't always want to use her "helper ears" she encouraged the rest of the family to learn ASL and recommended Alyssa.

After a year of lessons, we have not only built our ASL skills and Deaf culture knowledge, but we've found a true friend. She is funny, patient and immensely kind and caring. Every time we have an upcoming visit with our niece, Alyssa has gone above and beyond to craft special lessons to help us better communicate with her. When we first decided to study ASL it felt like a daunting task, but Alyssa has guided us through our ASL journey with such joy and care. We are so lucky to have her as our teacher and friend. " -Nell & Chris M., Brooklyn, NY.

"I've had lessons with Alyssa for the past 2 years, and at this point our whole family takes lessons with her. It's been wonderful for us. We're taking lessons because the littlest of our family was born deaf, so we want to communicate equally with him in our family. Alyssa is really easy to schedule with, flexible about her times and availability. Lessons are affordable and easily accessible online. She plays games to increase vocabulary and word retention, and every lesson is fun. She makes learning ASL accessible for everyone. I highly recommend Alyssa for your whole family!"  -Emily M.., Riverside, CA.

"Classes with Alyssa are exciting and always fun! She is very patient, flexible, and kind in her approach to organizing a class to suit her various student needs. Now that I'm at an intermediate level, she is finding new challenges like sessions on Deaf news, or conversation or more complicated vocabulary. She can just as easily switch gears for classes prepared for my 5 y.o son whose first language is ASL and effectively keeps his attention and love of learning. Classes with ASL Lotus are a bright spot in our week and wonderful to look forward to." -Elizabeth P., Atlanta, GA
